PERFORMING ON THE INSIDE/OUT SERIES
Thank you for your interest in performing on the Inside/Out Series at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. We are interested in presenting all dance forms and genres, including culturally-specific dance forms and dance-theater in addition to classical and contemporary choreography. 

Artists appear on the Inside/Out Series by invitation from Executive and Artistic Director, Ella Baff. Artists may apply to perform on the Series by carefully reading the below information and submitting an application and video of their work. (click here)

Applications for the 2016 Festival are accepted on a rolling basis.

THE VENUE
Performances take place at The Marcia and Seymour Simon Performance Space on the outdoor Henry J. Leir Stage. Both the audience and performers are surrounded by nature and the stunning backdrop of the Berkshire Hills. 

Performances are free and open to the public. They are geared toward exposing audiences to dance in an informal way, giving all people, regardless of their financial means, the opportunity to experience a wide variety of dance. The audience is seated on low wooden benches. The audience includes both experienced dance-goers who attend the Festival on a regular basis as well as newcomers to dance. Inside/Out attracts a multi-generational audience from children to teens, young professionals, families, and elders. The venue capacity is approximately 1,000.

Please remember that both the content and production needs of your presentation must be appropriate for a free outdoor venue with sound only. There are no lights, wings or other staging, and the performance moves indoors in the event of rain. 

THE STAGE
The stage is 40' wide by 36' deep, with a slight rake. The dance floor is an Aerodeck Sprung Panel floor covered with Harlequin white cascade marley. There is a dressing area underneath the stage, out of view of the audience. The stage is lit only by the natural light of the outdoors. There is an excellent sound system. There are no wings, curtains, lights, or masking. Two crew members coordinate all technical needs and run sound during the performance. Please click here for complete technical specifications. 


PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE and DURATION
Performances are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights throughout the Festival. Dancers of The School at Jacob's Pillow perform on Saturday nights.

Performances begin at 6:15pm and end at 7:00pm. The performance program is no longer than 35 minutes, including any pauses or costume changes that may be required.

The performance is immediately followed by a brief moderated question and answer session with the audience. 

WEATHER
In the event of rain or threatening weather conditions, Inside/Out moves indoors to the Ruth St. Denis studio, approximately 35' wide x 25' deep. The performance is also simulcast to another studio on site.

HONORARIUM
Inside/Out artists receive a small honorarium, meals in the Stone Dining Room (our resident cafeteria) and, when available, tickets to either a Ted Shawn Theatre or Doris Duke Theatre performance. Jacob's Pillow does not provide transportation. 

DOCUMENTATION AND CREDITING
All Inside/Out performances are videotaped, and most are photographed, and become part of the Jacob's Pillow Archives. Artists receive a complimentary video of their performance to use for not-for-profit promotional purposes.

The following credit is required on the video and in all public materials of any kind: The Inside/Out Series at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. 

HOW TO APPLY
If you are interested in performing on the Inside/Out Series in 2016, please send the items listed below by October 31, 2015 to the email below. 

Only electronic submissions are accepted. Please do not mail DVDs.  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Please send:
  1. Video of proposed work(s) to be performed, with running times. The total running time of the program is 35 minutes of performance material, including any necessary pauses.
    Your program may include one work, or several different works, or excerpts of several different works;
  2. Video of work(s) proposed must be submitted in their entirety. Edited promotional videos or clips will not be accepted. Video submission must be via YouTube or other video hosting site; applications without viable links will not be considered.
  3. A maximum of two concise paragraphs about the company; 
  4. A maximum of two concise paragraphs about the Artistic Director; 
  5. The number and names (if available) of company members that will perform in the program you propose. 
  6. Wednesday, Thursday or Friday dates your company is available to perform in Becket, Massachusetts during the 2016 Festival.
