July 18, 2012 - (Becket, MA) Performing at Jacob's Pillow for the first time, Chicago-based contemporary ensemble Luna Negra Dance Theater makes an energetic and innovative debut this week in the Doris Duke Theatre, July 18-22. Directed by Artistic Director Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, Luna Negra celebrates the richness and diversity of Latino culture through the creation of works by acclaimed contemporary Latino choreographers. The company's Pillow program includes Fernando Melo's Bate, the new dance Requiem by Mónica Cervantes, and Naked Ape, created by Fernando Hernando Magadan. As Hedy Weiss of The Chicago Sun-Times comments "Luna Negra's dancers are in bravura form -- fluid, bold, intense, funny and highly individualistic, with technique on such a high level that it becomes invisible even as it is unmistakably present."
