Contact: Alyssa Mayfield / 413.243.9919 x132 / amayfield@jacobspillow.org
Event: Presentation with Norton Owen, Jacob's Pillow Director of Preservation
Details: Originating with Jacob's Pillow founder Ted Shawn's interest in world cultures, dance from around the globe has always held a prominent place on Pillow stages.
From Maori and Native American dances in the 1930s through the mid-century U.S. debuts of legendary European ballet companies, and up to recent visits by celebrated Asian and Indian artists, the Pillow has long made it possible to tour the world without ever leaving Berkshire County.
As part of the Lenox Library Distinguished Lecture Series, Jacob's Pillow Director of Preservation Norton Owen will trace this international history in an hour-long presentation, which will include behind-the-scenes stories and many rare film clips from the Pillow Archives.
