Jacob's Pillow Dance

Dance, studying with her mother and godmother. In 1980, she entered the School of American Ballet and joined the corps de ballet of the New York City Ballet (NYCB) in 1983. In 1992, she joined William Forsythe's Frankfurt Ballet. She returned to NYCB in the winter of 1993, becoming a soloist in 1994. She danced numerous featured roles in Balanchine's works, including those in Apollo, Ballo della Regina and The Four Temperaments, as well as in Jerome Robbins' The Four Seasons (Winter) and Interplay. She was featured in Peter Martins' Ash and Barber Violin Concerto as well as in William Forsythe's Herman Schmerman. Calvert has also worked with many other noted choreographers, such as Twyla Tharp, Angelin Preljocaj, Kevin O'Day and Lynn Taylor-Corbett, originating principal roles in their works. She has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with dancers of NYCB and American Ballet Theatre. Culminating her performing career with NYCB in 2000, Calvert began her professional teaching career as a master teacher in 2001. As a guest artist, she has participated in numerous summer programs and workshops throughout the U.S., including the Atlanta Ballet, Louisiana Delta Ballet, Columbia City Jazz, and others. She is also a répétiteur for the George Balanchine Trust for which she has staged works for U.S. ballet companies. Calvert is currently teaching full time at USC in the Department of Theatre and Dance where she is an associate artistic director of the USC Dance Company. She has staged and directed many large scale productions and fundraisers including the Stars of the New York City Ballet, in which principal dancers from NYCB performed in collaboration with the students of the USC Dance Company (March 2006 and 2007) and a performance in which the USC Dance Company performed in Augusta, Georgia, in collaboration to renew the Augusta Ballet (February 2007). She recently became artistic consultant for the Augusta Ballet. While this is Calvert's first season teaching at The School, she performed at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in 1986 and 1987 with a group known as the Choreography Project with Dancers from the New York City Ballet.
