Aya Kaneko was born in Osaka, Japan. Kaneko was awarded the vocational examination syllabus certificate at The Royal Academy of Dance in London. She has worked with several ballet companies, projects, and schools as a dancer and teacher in Osaka and Kobe. She moved to New York City in 2006 and performed for choreographers such as Milton Myers, Dwight Rhoden, Helen Pickett, Edgar Zendejas, Aszure Barton, and Tero Saarinen. She participated in The School at Jacob's Pillow Contemporary Program in 2008 and 2009, where she received a full scholarship and the Professional Advancement in Dance Award. Kaneko studied Horton technique under Milton Myers and is currently his assistant/demonstrator at The Ailey School, The Juilliard School, The School at Jacob's Pillow, Implus Tanz Dance Festival, Steps on Broadway, Peridance; and for company classes, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Philadanco.
