Anthony Burrell is originally from Philadelphia where as a young adult he studied ballet and danced professionally in local modern companies before being hand selected by Judith Jamison for Ailey II. Soon after, he joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and toured nationally and internationally with the company for five years. During this time he set choreography on Ailey members and was already being noticed by reviewers such as Jennifer Dunning who described him as a "choreographer to watch". After achieving his life-long dream of dancing with Alvin Ailey, Burrell went on to experience commercial success in Los Angeles. As a dancer, choreographer, and dance captain he has worked with the industry's top artists such as Beyoncé, Destiny's Child, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kelly Rowland, and Brandy. As an actor, Burrell toured with Mary J. Blige twice and co-starred as "Dallas" on Glee. He has also been a featured performer on So You Think You Can Dance and starred as "Hank" in the first national tour of Twyla Tharp's Broadway musical Come Fly Away.
