Dennis Marshall trained on scholarship at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
School at American Ballet Theatre, the School of American Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet School, The Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg, and The Royal Ballet School in London. Upon graduation from high school he was asked to join American Ballet Theatre where he performed solo and principal roles and was promoted to soloist under the direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov. His highly acclaimed career continued when he joined San Francisco Ballet as a principal dancer. In November 1978, Marshall was featured in a cover story in Dance Magazine. In 1979, he was the winner of a bronze medal at the first USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi. Marshall has served as ballet master for North Carolina Dance Theatre, Tulsa Ballet and Boston Ballet, and has guest taught extensively nationally and internationally. Since 2005, he has directed the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School.
