Rodrigo Torino is a guitarist and composer who devotes his career to Brazilian
music. With a degree in music from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, he has worked as a guitarist in folk music, música popular brasileira, choro, and samba. Currently, Torino's focus is composing instrumental music based on his research into elements of the Brazilian musical culture, such as choro, gafieira, waltz, maxixe, and baião. He won the 2003 Young Instrumentalist Award from Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais (BDMG), and then made two international tours to Spain and France. From 2005 to 2007, he studied composition and seven-string guitar with choro master Mauricio Carrilho in Rio de Janeiro. Torino has performed alongside important Brazilian music figures such as Elza Soares and Paulo Moura. In 2010, he was named "Best Musical Arranger" and "Best Composer" at the BDMG Instrumental Awards, one of the most important music awards in Brazil.
