Contemporary Traditions

July 13 - August 2
Program Director: Milton Myers
Guest Artists: Aszure Barton, Tero Saarinen, Helen Pickett; Ballet Faculty: Stacey Calvert, Francisco Martinez, Pam Pribisco; Contemporary Faculty: Arturo Fernandez, Milton Myers, Banu Ogan; Music Director: John Levis

This program prepares up-and-coming dancers to perform a range of work
with the technical and mental versatility required to work with today's leading choreographers and companies. Three stylistically diverse artistic directors and choreographers each create new work or teach repertory on participating dancers. In the process of gaining insight into multiple movement vocabularies and choreographic approaches, dancers deepen their understanding of how to communicate choreographic intent and work as an ensemble.

Distinguished master teachers lead daily classes in ballet, contemporary, and body conditioning. Each includes practices that are necessary to succeed and sustain oneself as an artist. Faculty coach dancers in high-level performance skills that are immediately applied in the free informal presentations for Pillow audiences on the Inside/Out stage on July 18, 25, and August 1.

Dancers also attend Festival performances, talks, exhibits, and master classes free of charge as part of their dance immersion at the Pillow.

For 25 advanced and professional dancers with strong performance facility, ages 16 and up.
