Gustavo Côrtes has directed the Brazilian folk dance group Sarandeiros since
1997 and has toured the group around the world, including performances in Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Mexico, Peru, and Spain. He is also a physiotherapist, Professor of Dance at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and a teacher of dance at the Bolshoi Theatre School in Joinville, Brazil. Côrtes has a Master of Education and a Doctorate of Arts from the University of Campinas, and is a member of the Minas Gerais Committee of Folklore and Traditional Arts. In addition to his book, Dance, Brazil!, which was published in 2000, Côrtes has authored several articles about the influence of Brazilian culture on dance and the arts.
