The Experience
Molly Hickok is a founding member of Big Dance Theater. She has appeared
as an actor/dancer in 14 of its works, including The Other Here, Plan B, Mac Wellman's Antigone, A Simple Heart and Shunkin, in New York City, at City Center, Classic Stage Company, Dance Theater Workshop and The Kitchen, in national venues, such as Walker Art Center, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and UCLA Live!, and in international venues, including theaters and festivals in Germany, Holland, The Netherlands and France. She was honored with a Bessie award in 2005 for her work with the company. Her solo piece, Mary Chestnut, was presented at Dance Theater Workshop. She has also appeared in the films, The Manchurian Candidate, Philadelphia and the up-coming Dancing with Shiva, all directed by Jonathan Demme. Hickok has been artist-in-residence in numerous schools throughout the New York City high school system, as well as on Rikers Island. She has taught short-term workshops at Trinity College, Keene College, Orono University, Bennington College, Oswego State and SUNY at Oswego. For Phantom Theater, she directed Marriage Proposals, an original piece using three Chekhov plays as source material, incorporating music and dance into the action, and for Irondale Ensemble Project, she directed AIDS IMPROV TEAM, an original aids education piece for performance in high schools, in collaboration with professional actors. Hickok performed with Big Dance Theater at Jacob's Pillow in 2000, 2002 and 2007, and participated in their residencies here as well. This will be Hickok's first season teaching at The School at Jacob's Pillow.
