Pilates at the Pillow
June 23-July 29, 2010 • Doris Duke Theatre Lobby • Open 30 minutes pre-performance
Although Pilates is widely recognized as one of the world's most popular forms of exercise, the system's originator and his connections with both dance and the Berkshires are less evident. Joseph Pilates was a prominent member of the Pillow faculty in the 1940s and 50s, and he owned a house nearby until his death in 1967. On display here for the first time are some reminders of his pioneering work at the Pillow, including rare photographs, correspondence, class schedules, and other unique items.
