"One of the wittiest young choreographers around" (Deborah Jowitt of The Village Voice), Monica Bill Barnes' quirky blend of theatricality, intelligent humor, and humanity yields a rare and tender eloquence. This engagement features the world premiere of mostly fanfare, inspired by and set to the music of Nina Simone. In preparation for this premiere, Barnes and dancer/filmmaker Celia Rowlson-Hall created eight short companion films to offer a peek into the choreographer's imagination, click here to view. mostly fanfare was co-commissioned and created in part during a Creative Development Residency at the Pillow.
Also on the program are Another Parade, a hilarious rollercoaster set to the sounds of Bach and James Brown, and Here We Are, a solo danced by Barnes.
