Morphoses makes a stunning Jacob's Pillow debut with the world premiere WITHIN (Labyrinth Within), a powerful evening of dance-on-stage and on-screen created by noted choreographer and filmmaker Pontus Lidberg. This new dance work includes and expands on Lidberg's award-winning dance film "Labyrinth Within," which explores a mysterious love triangle through lush, sensual choreography, brilliant film imagery, and evocative music.
The premiere of WITHIN (Labyrinth Within) embodies mystery and elegance as it creatively combines film, original music composed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang and recorded by international cellist Maya Beiser, and live on stage performance by a gorgeous cast of dancers including New York City Ballet principal Sara Mearns and soloist Adrian Danchig-Waring. The film "Labyrinth Within," starring New York City Ballet's Wendy Whelan, dancer Giovanni Bucchieri, and Lidberg himself, is interwoven throughout the performance-resulting in exhilarating and completely unique theatrical experience.
About Morphoses: Directed by former New York City Ballet star Lourdes Lopez, Morphoses is an adventurous dance company made up of some of the finest classically trained and contemporary performers in the dance world. In 2012, internationally acclaimed choreographer, dancer and filmmaker Pontus Lidberg serves as Resident Artistic Director. Lidberg has danced with The Royal Swedish Ballet and Ballet du Grand Théatre de Genève and has created dances for The Royal Danish Ballet, The Beijing Dance Theater, and many other companies.
