"spectacularly gifted performers" - The Seattle Times

Dance Theatre of Harlem broke new ground in 1969 as the first major African-American classical ballet company in the U.S. Today, the legendary ensemble celebrates this exceptional legacy and moves it forward. They open the Festival with a range of classical and contemporary ballets including George Balanchine's 1957 masterwork Agon; Alvin Ailey's lyrical The Lark Ascending, danced en pointe for the first time; and the modern-day love story Far But Close by choreographer John Alleyne, with spoken word by poet Daniel Beaty and lush music by composer/violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain.

Learn more about the rebirth of Dance Theatre of Harlem in this New York Times profile, short documentary, and a Newsweek cover article on the inspiring story of DTH's youngest ballerina Michaela DePrince
