We are thrilled to announce that the film this year is Bess Kargman's award-winning, hit documentary FIRST POSITION. The film follows six extraordinary dancers as they prepare for the chance to enter the world of professional ballet, struggling through bloodied feet, near exhaustion and debilitating injuries. A showcase of awe-inspiring talent, tenacity and passion, FIRST POSITION paints a thrilling and moving portrait of the most gifted ballet stars of tomorrow.
Following the screening, special guests including filmmaker Bess Kargman and Ballet Program Director for The School at Jacob's Pillow Anna-Marie Holmes, will discuss the path that young dancers must navigate to pursue a professional career and answer questions.

We will also be celebrating the installation of brand new seats in the Ted Shawn Theatre, made possible by a leading challenge grant from The Kresge Foundation, major support from American Express, LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust, and the Jacob's Pillow Board of Directors, and the generous individual donors who participated in our Name A Seat campaign. Seats are still available for naming in both the Ted Shawn and Doris Duke Theatres.

New this year, before and after the film screening, we will host historic tours of the Pillow grounds highlighting the recent improvements made possible by the Name A Seat, Sustain A Landmark campaign. Tours will depart from the Welcome Center on June 9 at 2pm and at 5:30pm.
Please join us for this free event, exclusively for Pillow Members and Seat Buyers. A reception outside the Ted Shawn Theatre will follow, weather permitting, and Blake's Barn will be open for a preview of the 2013 Festival exhibit, Shooting Stars.
