Jacob's Pillow provides a variety of opportunities for young artists and arts professionals to advance their careers. Here's a sampling of what of our alumni are involved in currently.

Alumni of The School:
Elizabeth Van Vleck (1980 Student; 2009 Development/Ticket Services Intern) was hired by CalArts Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance in February 2010. "I am working with another Pillow Alum, Stephan Koplowitz, Dean of Dance. In fact, at my interview, we remembered that we were together there in 1980. He was on a fellowship and I was a scholarship student."

Dawn Lane's (1985 Most Modern Workshop Student; 1986-87 New Dance Workshop Student; 1988 Staff; 1993-94 Faculty; 1995 Dance & Community Partnerships Workshop Student; 1999-2009 Days in the Arts Faculty; 2005 Community Programs Artist; 2009 Community Residency Faculty) choreographic work for CATA's Moving Company was selected for the VSAarts International Festival, held at The Kennedy Performing Arts Center in D.C., June 6-12, 2010. The piece was one of the handful selected from over 100 applicants from around the world.

Gelan Lambert (1997 Men's Dances Student; 2002 Cultural Traditions Student) currently appears on Broadway in Fela!

Jonah Bokaer (1998 Visions of Jazz Workshop Student) was, at age 18, the youngest dancer to join Merce Cunningham Dance Company and now, at 28, has been named one of the "Nifty 50: America's up-and-coming talents," in The New York Times T Magazine.

Jeffrey Page (1998 Cultural Traditions Student and Dance & Community Partnerships Workshop Student) was Resident Choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance in July 2009 and currently appears on Broadway in Fela!

Shaneeka Harrell (1999 Modern Traditions Student) currently appears on Broadway in Fela!

Millicent Johnnie (1999, 2009 Cultural Traditions Student) has joined Southern Methodist University as hip-hop dance professor and scholar. She is also choreographer for University of Illinois' The Hip-Hop Project, written by Steve Broadnax from Penn State University.

Lisa Niedermeyer (1999 Business Intern; 2000 Store Manager; 2002 Day at the Pillow Faculty; 2003 Choreography for the Screen Student; 2003 Community Programs Faculty) is working for Jacob's Pillow as Virtual Pillow Project Manager. She also serves on the advisory board of Movement Media, is a frequent guest curator for Kinetic Cinema and guest blogs at Move the Frame. Lisa spent 2 years as digital content director for Jane Comfort and Company (whom she met at Jacob's Pillow and danced with for 7 years) and most recently worked on the new media marketing team for Soundwalk.com .

Sonia Dawkins (2000 Making Dance/Talking Choreography Student) is currently Artistic Director of SD/Prism Dance Theatre in Seattle, WA, and, in April 2010, was an Artist-In Residence at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.

Annique Roberts (2000 Jazz: Broadway Evolutions Student), who was featured in the August 2008 Dance Magazine issue while dancing with Garth Fagan Dance, is the newest member of Ronald K. Brown/Evidence. Also in Evidence are Lilli-Ann Tai (2007 Contemporary Program Student) and Francine Ott (2006 Choreographer-Composer Lab Student).

Sadira Smith (2000 Cultural Traditions Student), formerly a performer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, is now teaching Graham technique in Israel and dancing with Tel Aviv Dance Company led by choreographers Amit Goldenberg and Yard Dolev, former Batsheva dancers. She also continues to work with 360 Dance Company, based in NY.

Erika Jimbo (2001, 2005 Cultural Traditions Student) is performing with Pilobolus Dance Theatre and appeared at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington in fall 2009.

Adele Myers (2001 Choreographer-Composer Lab Student; 2007 Community Dance Workshop Faculty) Adele Myers and Dancers was selected for a Bates Dance Festival dance residency last summer and the work created will be presented at Connecticut's 5x5 Dance Festival in October 2010.

Adam Barruch (2002 Contemporary Program Student) was selected for the 2009 Reverb Festival, held in partnership with Purchase College Conservatory of Dance.

Willie Brown (2002 Cultural Traditions Student) presented his choreographic work in Philadelphia Oct 2-4, 2009.

Loni Landon (2002 Contemporary Program Student) formerly danced with Tanz Theater München where she received the opportunity to choreograph. In 2009, she was a finalist in The Hannover International Choreography competition and in May 2010, she was selected to show her work for HT Chen's new Choreographer's Showcase in New York. Loni continues to work as a freelance dancer and choreographer.

LaQuet Sharnell (2002 Cultural Traditions Student) is Director and Founder at STEP Theater Company.

Bradley Shelver (2002 Contemporary Program Student) was selected for the 2009 Reverb Festival, held in partnership with Purchase College Conservatory of Dance.

Emery LeCrone (2003 Ballet Program Student) premiered three choreographic works in April: Columbia Ballet Collaborative performed Five Songs for Piano at Columbia University's Miller Theatre; The New Chamber Ballet premiered Chamber Dances to live music; and Oregon Ballet Theatre presented Divergence, funded by the Jerome Robbins Foundation's New Essential Works (NEW) Program, which helps ballet companies continue creating new work despite economic challenges.

Oneika Phillips (2003 Cultural Traditions Student) says "I am 'Anita' in West Side Story on many international stages. So far we have played cities like Lyon, France; Madrid, Gijon and Santander, Spain; Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Japan; Tel Aviv, Israel; and Amsterdam, The Netherlands--all to overwhelming success and response. Playing in this production (directed by Joey McKneely) continues to shape my artistic growth and intentions in superlative ways...allowing me to blast away any sort of box I ever put myself into."

Winston Dynamite Brown (2004 Ballet Program Student and Contemporary Program Student and recipient of the Lorna Strassler Award for Student Excellence at Jacob's Pillow that year) is performing with Pilobolus Dance Theatre and appeared at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington in fall 2009.

Karama Butler (2004, 2006 Contemporary Program Student) presented her choreographic work in Philadelphia Oct 2-4, 2009.

Nigel Campbell (2004 Contemporary Program Student) wrote: "the Pillow immediately felt like a second home to me! And I got so much from all my experiences there. I depart Germany this summer after dancing for two years with Marguerite Donlon to join Luna Negra in Chicago. I met the new director, who's from Spain, here in Europe, and immediately connected with his work. I can't wait!"

Doug Letheren (2004 Contemporary Program Student) has been dancing with Batsheva since 2008.

Andre Zachery (2004 Contemporary Program Student) joined Compagnie Thor in Brussels, Belgium in October 2009 on the project: For The Ones I Love. The project toured Europe and the Middle East from January-May 2010. He and his wife, choreographer Alia Zachery are co-directors of Renegrade Performance Group. www.renegadepg.com

Sidra Bell (2005 Choreography Workshop Student) released an 80-page retrospective photo book, Persona, with photos by Jubal Battisti (2002 Ballet Program Student). Erica Frankel (2005-06 Jazz Program Student) is the newest company member dancing with VaBang!

Jumatatu Poe (2005 Cultural Traditions Student) presented his choreographic work in Philadelphia Oct 2-4, 2009.

Avi Scher (2005 Ballet Program Student and recipient of the Lorna Strassler Award for Student Excellence at Jacob's Pillow that year) presented 3 full evenings of his work at the Ailey Cirigroup Theater, featuring a new work for Marcelo Gomes and Sara Mearns, as well as live music by singer Genevieve Labean. In May, the company appeared on the John F. Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, on June 6, at Symphony Space with a program of new work, and on July 23 appeared on the Pillow's Inside/Out stage.

Nelly van Bommel (2005 Choreography Workshop Student) was recognized in Dance Magazine's January 2010 issue as one of the "25 to Watch." In March, she won a $6,000 juror prize and then $1,000 for two performances of a new work, Fanfarnèta, created for Ballet Austin, as part of the company's New American Talent/Dance Choreographic Competition. Nelly was also selected for the 2009 Reverb Festival, held in partnership with Purchase College Conservatory of Dance.

Ally Voye's (2005 Choreography Workshop Student) film, RED, was chosen by the UMOVE Online Videodance Festival. It screened in New York City in early October and will part of an international tour in 2009-2010. Arkadi Zaides's (2006 Contemporary Program Faculty) piece, Solo Colores, was recently awarded with the prestigious Kurt Jooss Prize 2010. Solo Colores is a collaboration of Arkadi Zaides with the choreographer and performer Iris Erez, the sculptor Isabel Cruellas, the dramaturge Itay Weiser, the musician Karni Postel and the costume designer Sarah Brown. It premiered in 2008 and since then has been performed in festivals in Israel, China, Taiwan and Japan.

Christopher Howard (2008 Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance Student) has an 8-month gig on a Celebrity Cruise ship that started this past spring.

Kate March (2008 Choreographers Lab Student and former Community Class instructor) is the dancer in the film RED by Ally Voye (2005 Choreography Workshop Student) at UMOVE Festival. She says, "I am in London right now at Middlesex University just beginning my journey towards a Masters! Very exciting stuff, and I feel very prepared mainly because of what I experienced at the Pillow in terms of group work and discussion!"

Amaya Perea (2008 Cultural Traditions Student, 2009 Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance Student) wrote: "This semester I auditioned and was accepted into CAP21, a musical theater conservatory in New York City. It is an extreme honor and absolute dream. I am now trying to find the funds to make it happen and if meant to be, will be moving to New York City and attending CAP21 starting August 1st of this year. I am bursting with excitement and am praying that the chips will fall into place and allow me to go."

Viviana Camino (2009 Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance Student) has left Crazy Horse in Paris for the European tour of CHICAGO.

Jesse Fraser (2009 Ballet Program Student) danced in a Toronto dance celebration "where the director of the Stuttgart Ballet, Reid Anderson, noticed me and offered me a contract as an apprentice for their next season. I start in September." Before departing for the Stuttgart, he will represent the Royal Winnipeg Ballet at the Banff Festival of Dance this summer in Alberta.

Ana Isabel Keilson (2009 Choreographers Lab Student) had a residency at the Yard this summer from June 1-11, and then served as Choreographic Fellow for Summer Stages Dance Festival, in Concord, MA.

Abigail Levine (2009 Choreographers Lab Student) performed with Marina Abramovíc through May at MoMA and then toured to Mexico with Cuban choreographer Marianela Boán. Her own work was presented this spring at Judson Church in New York City and this summer in São Paulo, Brazil. www.abigaillevine.com

Harriet Maccauley (2009 Choreographers Lab Student), Artistic Director of Pair Dance Performance, has been selected as part of the Connect Platform at the Lillian Baylis Theatre, Sadler's Wells, (London) with solo work INSIDEout.

Olga Petrova (2009 Choreographers Lab student) visited Harriet Maccauley (2009 Choreographers Lab student) of Pair Dance in London, and Harriet Maccauley is collaborating with Ksenya Petrenko (2009 Choreographers Lab student) and Alexey Zherebtsov (2009 Choreographers Lab student) of Liquid Theatre in Moscow during summer 2010.

Jane Moss (1985 Intern; 1986-88 Staff) is currently the Director of Development at People's Light & Theatre Company in Malvern, PA.

Marta Fodor (2004 Photography Intern) is now the Image Licensing Coordinator at Art Resource.

Adrienne Bryant (2005 General Management Intern) is now the NYC Gateway Orientation Coordinator at AFS Intercultural Programs and has just been accepted to the Kennedy Center for the Arts Management Fellowship program in Washington DC.

Mora Cantlin (2006 Intern) wrote "I'm now working in marketing at Dartmouth's Hopkins Center and I'm loving it! The staff here is so impressed that I used to work at the Pillow, a topic I share with much love and pride. It is great to be back working in the arts." (Dec 2009)

Kellee Roston Edusei (2007 Education Intern) is now the Membership Manager for DANCE/USA in DC.

Katherine Van Wyk (2007 Intern) became the Development Intern at Shakespeare Theatre Company in August 2009.

Amy Jacobus (2008 Marketing Intern) is now the Administrative/Development Assistant at Brooklyn Ballet.

Anna Keeler (2008 Intern) is now Graphic Design Intern at the prestigious New York based firm Chermayeff & Geismar. The firm created many design projects for the Pillow throughout the 1980s.

Katelyn Rumbaugh (2008 Education Intern) is working in the development department at Center Stage in Baltimore. "First I was an intern in the development department, but was hired about two weeks ago as full-time when my supervisor left the organization. Now I must start actually making a home in Baltimore! I've really learned a lot and feel I have grown so much professionally since my time at the Pillow. Thanks again for all you did."

Galen Danskin (2009 General Management Intern) is currently a Student Teacher at Aga Khan Education Services, Uganda.

Tyra Jackson (2009 Business Intern) is currently a Studio and Theatre Manager Intern at Dance Place in Washington, D.C. She's taking classes, and teaching and choreographing wherever they send her.
