Call for Performers

Jacob’s Pillow is excited to announce an open call for Berkshire-area performers to appear in Festival productions by Compañía Sharon Fridman and Faye Driscoll. This is a unique opportunity for performers to work with internationally renowned artists at the longest-running international dance Festival in the United States. Each performer will receive meals while at Jacob’s Pillow, two complimentary tickets to the performance, a 10% discount at the Pillow Store, and a modest travel stipend.

Compañía Sharon Fridman: Free fall | July 22-29

Seeking 30 local performers of all genders and experience levels, ages 18+ to perform with Compañía Sharon Fridman in Free fall, a Max Award for the Performing Arts-winning piece that rehearses and engages with community volunteers who become an integral part of the production.

Known for their adventurous work rooted in contact improvisation, Compañía Sharon Fridman’s rehearsals become opportunities for participants to explore contact, weight consciousness, and scene presence. The aim of these intensive sessions—and the Free fall project as a whole—is to develop what the company calls “human landscapes” or “living scenery”: using contact as a tool to explore the complex and delicate processes by which bodies join together and come apart. Here, propelled by the unflagging desire to build a culture of community-based support, individual bodies coalesce into an organically composed whole. In the piece, the community ensemble creates the conditions for what Compañía Sharon Fridman calls the “free fall”: a letting-go that is “a source of encouragement and support so that individuals can find freedom.” Preview Free fall.

Faye Driscoll: Thank You For Coming: Play | July 30-August 5

Seeking 10-15 local performers of all genders and experience levels, ages 18+ to perform in Faye Driscoll’s Thank You For Coming: Play. The ensemble is voice-based, so it is essential that participants are comfortable vocalizing onstage. No memorization is required and performers will be coached in Driscoll’s vocal technique. This is a wonderful opportunity for dancers, actors, singers, and performers interested in Driscoll’s work.

Thank You For Coming: Play is the second installment in Faye Driscoll’s Thank You For Coming trilogy, a body of work that posits performance as a collaborative world-building act. Play, described as “captivating and complex” (Portland Mercury), investigates the ritual of storytelling, focusing on the shadows, gaps, repetitions, and stutters between what we say and what we do while we say it. In this peculiar and enthralling collage of gesture, image, voice, and persona, performers ventriloquize, shape-shift, and speak through and for each other. Please note this performance contains partial nudity and some adult language. Preview Thank You For Coming: Play

Performers must be available for all rehearsals and performances.
