Schedule of 2023 Community Workshops

Versa-Style Dance Company
Wednesday, July 12, 6-7:30pm
Common Room, Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First Street

Pre-registration for this event has closed. Walk-ups welcome pending capacity. Join L.A.-based dance company Versa-Style and learn the fundamentals of Hip Hop dance. This workshop will explore the foundations of the style, including the rhythm and timing of movements, grooves, vocabulary, and cultural and historical contexts. Participants will engage these fundamentals in choreography and freestyle.

Paloma McGregor
Thursday, July 27, 6-7:30pm
Common Room, Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First Street

This interactive workshop is rooted in story-telling and building community. Come prepared to write, move, remember, listen, and feel. The Fishtrap Method is a collaborative creative process developed by Paloma McGregor as part of her decade-long exploration of her father’s vanishing fishing tradition and three driving questions that emerged after she left her ancestral home, St. Croix: What do we take with us? Leave behind? Return to reclaim? Participants should bring something to write with, clothes to move in, and an object or photo that has cultural/familial/personal significance.

Jazz with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks
Thursday, August 10, 6-7:30pm
Common Room, Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First Street

Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) is a Canadian jazz dance company that is dedicated to honoring and promoting the rich history of jazz dance while existing to meaningfully contribute to the future of the form.
