Dancers represented a wide range of styles—including artists from the outdoor performance of East Coast Styles: Street and Social Dance the day before—and competed for a $1,000 first-place prize in this lively battle hosted by the legendary Princess Lockerooo and judged by Maria Torres, Michele Byrd-McPhee, and Buddha Stretch.

Dance Battle FAQs:
What kind of dance styles will be represented in the Freestyle Battle?
Dancers of all styles are welcome to register for the Freestyle battle. Dancers should be ready to dance to any genre of music.
How many dancers from the Open Call Registration Form will you invite to participate in the Freestyle Battle?
Jacob’s Pillow will invite 20 dancers and 5 alternates from the Open Call Registration Form to participate in the Freestyle Battle. Selection will be made by the Freestyle Battle judges.
How will dancers get to Jacob’s Pillow?
Dancers are generally responsible for their own transportation to Jacob’s Pillow. However, Jacob’s Pillow will run a bus up from New York City (at a predetermined location) at 3PM on August 20, to arrive at Jacob’s Pillow by 6PM. Dancers will be provided with dinner upon arrival to Jacob’s Pillow. Dancers will be brought back to New York City by bus immediately following the Battle (estimated arrival time back to NYC is 3AM). The Pillow will not provide housing for dancers.
When will I be notified if I’ve been selected?
Dancers will be notified of the status of their selection by no later than August 1, 2022.
What are Jacob’s Pillow’s COVID-19 policies?
All dancers participating in the Freestyle Battle must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a booster shot, if eligible. Type of vaccines must be accepted by the World Health Organization.
