Classes with Inside/Out Artists

Select Thursdays, 4-5pm.
Take a class, then see the artists perform as part of the Inside/Out Performance Series that evening. Weather permitting, classes take place at the Inside/Out stage. In the case of inclement weather, classes take place in the Ruth St. Denis Studio. Quiet observation welcome unless noted otherwise.

Registration required online or call 413.243.9919 x166. Registration opens Monday at 9am the week of class. Walk-ups are accommodated as space permits.
All participants require a liability waiver. Participants younger than 18 require a parent/guardian signature.

2018 Inside/Out Artist Classes

August 16 | David Parker & The Bang Group

Led by David Parker, choreographer and director of The Bang Group, and The Bang Group Company Members, this class mixes ideas and movements from contemporary dance, body music, and tap dance to build rhythm phrases based on Steve Reich’s classic percussive score for his “Clapping Music.” This class will involve the whole body as well as body percussion and does not require prior tap knowledge. After class, see the company perform on the Inside/Out Stage at 6:15pm, learn more.

Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for movement. Participants welcomed to dance in socks, shoes, or barefoot.

June 28 | Lindy Hop with Wild Rhythm

One of New York’s most decorated swing duos, Wild Rhythm’s Nathan Bugh and Gaby Cook lead an introductory class that teaches the technique and character of swing. Participants will learn defining vocabulary of the genre, partnering skills, and the key rhythmic components of this improvised social dance. After class, see the company perform on the Inside/Out Stage at 6:15pm, learn more.

July 5 | Contemporary Repertory with Bruce Wood Dance

Artistic Director of Bruce Wood Dance Kimi Nikaidoh leads “Wood Works,” a master class that includes exercises and techniques found in Bruce Wood’s movement style, as well as fun and accessible samples from Bruce Wood Dance’s repertoire. After class, see the company perform on the Inside/Out Stage at 6:15pm, learn more.

Please wear comfortable clothing for appropriate movement. Socks or bare feet are fine.
