Bill Hastings has performed in over fifty musicals and plays including Broadway and National touring productions of The Most Happy Fella, A Chorus Line, Cabaret, Rags, Bob Fosse’s Dancin’, and Sweet Charity. He has choreographed numerous productions for U.S., European, and Japanese theater, television, video, industrial, and concert dance companies. He received the coveted NEA Dance/USA Grant to restage works of Bob Fosse at the University of Nebraska; The Willson Center for the Arts and Humanities Visiting Artist Residency; and has twice received grants to the University of Richmond to stage original works. Hastings assisted Chet Walker and Gwen Verdon on the Tony Award-winning Fosse and participated in the 2011 Pillow Creative Development Residency with Chet Walker that led to the premiere of Heat Wave: The Jack Cole Project at the Queens Theater, where he served as Dance Supervisor. His piece Nabta Playa, created for the modern dance company RhythMEK with an original score by composer Marty Beller, premiered at the Ted Shawn Theatre for the 2000 Season Opening Gala of Jacob’s Pillow. This is Hastings’s 10th year mentoring students in the Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance Program, where he lectures on the life and work of Jack Cole and has choreographed for A Jazz Happening.
