Idan Porges is currently the Director of Batsheva – The Young Ensemble in Tel-Aviv. Porges was born in Kiryat Bialik in 1983 and graduated from Teatron Haguf School & Stage for Physical Theatre in 2005. From 2005-2007, he was a dancer in the Batsheva Ensemble, and from 2007-2008, he danced in the international cast of Ohad Naharin’s Kamuyot as part of a project of the Riksteatern. Since 2008, he has freelanced as a dancer for the Dana Ruttenberg Dance Group, Klipa Theater, Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theater, and individual artists, including Michal Herman and Barak Marshall’s productions of Rooster and Monger. Porges has been developing his own voice as a choreographer since 2010, creating works for Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theater, Ensemble Kaet, among others. In 2012, he became manager of the first Gaga Teacher Training Program and participated in the 2015 Schusterman Visiting Israeli Artist Program at Swarthmore College and Bryn Mawr College. Porges has been teaching Gaga since 2007.
