Mario Alberto Zambrano was a contemporary ballet dancer for Ballet Frankfurt, Batsheva Dance Company, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Nederlands Dans Theater. After dancing, he returned to school and attended The University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Writer’s Workshop earning a M.F.A. in English. While there, he participated in the John C. Schupes Fellowship for Excellence in Fiction. Zambrano’s first novel, Loteria, published by HarperCollins, was a Barnes and Noble “Great New Writer Pick” in the fall of 2013. It was also hailed a |”Best Book of 2013 by Vogue, Booklist, The Village Voice, School Library Journal, and was awarded the 2014 John Garner Fiction Award winner. Zambrano was awarded both dance and literary fellowships from Hawthornden Castle in Scotland, MacDowell Colony, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Princess Grace Foundation, and Yaddo. Currently, Zambrano is a Lecturer in Dance at Harvard University in the Theater, Dance and Media Concentration, and working on a new novel.
