Contemporary Ballet | Artist Faculty

Maurice Causey is an American born, European based dance artist. He began studying ballet at the age of 15 in his hometown of Florence, Alabama with Patsy Hill and Michael McCadden. His training includes Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, School of the American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre School, and Joffrey Ballet. Causey was a solo dancer with William Forsythe at The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company for eight years. He has also danced with the Cleveland  Ballet, Pennsylvania  Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, and as a solo dancer with The Göteborg Ballet in Sweden. Mr. Causey was Ballet Master for Royal Swedish Ballet from 2002 until 2003, and Nederlands Dans Theater from 2004 to 2010. He has choreographed original works for companies including Nederlands Dans Theater, Northwestern Dance Project, Hubbard Street 2, Milwaukee Ballet, Stockholm59°north, Ballett Augsburg, Tanz Luzerner Theater, Ballet Arabesque of Sofia, and Resident Choreographer from 2012 to 2015 with iMEE (infinite Movement Ever Evolving) in Bulgaria and Houston, Texas. Causey has also guest taught professional ballet classes for companies including National Ballet of Portugal, Norwegian National Ballet, Cullberg Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, Royal  Swedish Ballet, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, The Henny Jurriens Foundation, and Wayne McGregor | Random Dance in London, England. He has been on juries for several ballet competitions across Europe and has taught at the prestigious Varna International Ballet Competition, and The International Baltic Ballet Competition. Mr. Causey has choreographed for galas and schools throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Korea and Australia, and has also staged ballets by William Forsythe. He has given workshops of creative and choreographic movement and teaches Forsythe’s improvisation technologies around the world. He has been featured in several short films, documentaries, and publications about dance. For the last eight years, he has been a patron for the Austinmer Dance Theater in Australia directed by Michelle Forte. He is currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. www.mauricecausey.com
