The Development/Special Events Internship offers an opportunity to gain real work experience in a busy Development Office and work on multiple events of varying sizes.
The Special Events Intern will work directly with the Special Events Manager as well as with the full Development team in planning, supporting, and executing many fundraising and special event activities for the Festival from early June through early September, including the annual Jacob’s Pillow Gala. This person will also assist the Development Department with additional duties as needed.
Duties include logistical and creative planning, including communicating with vendors, staff, volunteers, partners, artists and performers; ordering supplies; attending planning meetings and discussions; and event implementation. This includes greeting the public and answering questions; coordinating event set-up and clean-up; supporting vendors, partners, artists, and performers by addressing equipment, technical, and other needs; and assisting with pulling lists, organizing donor records, and entering information into our donor database. Additional Festival responsibilities include assisting with daily functions of a Development office including mailings and daily interaction with our donor database, and audience tracking 3 days a week at Inside/Out, the Pillow’s free performance series, including distributing programs and welcoming patrons. In addition, this intern will have the opportunity to take on an independent project based on their personal interests in Development or Special Events.
Candidates should possess strong verbal and writing skills, a professional and confident phone manner, and must be flexible, team-oriented, positive, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects concurrently, and discreet in handling sensitive donor-related information. Facility in Word, Excel and internet research, as well as the ability to creatively solve problems as they arise and work with loose supervision, is also important. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are a must and a desire to enter the arts fundraising field is preferred.
