What to expect

Internationally acclaimed Pillow artists lead inspirational Master Class experiences that mirror The School’s professional classes and rehearsals. Expect to be coached in extending beyond your usual range of artistry and to explore your potential as an expressive and collaborative performer.

Master Classes are fast-paced, with only an abbreviated warm up, in order to focus on choreography requiring the techniques, styles, and artistic expressivity of the specified program.

Recruitment Tour Master Classes are excellent opportunities to meet Pillow artists, alumni, and staff while gaining audition experience and learning about living and training at Jacob’s Pillow. Pillow staff and alumni can answer questions and speak about their own experiences attending The School. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and inspiring.

Registration & Policies
  • We recommend arriving one hour before the Master Class to register and warm up.
  • Dancers are not permitted to take the class without a properly signed Liability Waiver.
  • Dancers must be at least 16 years of age to participate.
    • If 16 or 17 years old, a parent or guardian must accompany you to register and sign a liability waiver.
  • Parents, teachers, and friends are not permitted to observe.
  • Master Classes provide an introduction to The School experience; they are not required for program consideration. Only complete program applications, submitted by appropriate deadlines, receive admittance consideration.

Recruitment Tour Master Class Scholarship Opportunity

Three $1000 Jacob’s Pillow Scholarship Awards are being reserved for dancers who submit a program application prior to attending a Master Class: one each for Contemporary, Musical Theatre Dance, and Street & Club Dances. By submitting the program application prior to attending a Master Class, you will automatically be considered for the $1,000 scholarship during the selection process.

This award is not dependent on financial need, so it is not necessary to complete the scholarship application to be considered for this award. However, if a scholarship would be necessary to make your attendance possible, it is very important to complete the Scholarship Application as it’s possible you could be accepted, but not selected for this particular scholarship award.
