Summer 2020 introduced a new Master Class Series from The School at Jacob’s Pillow, featuring instruction from world-class artists. Master Classes premiered Tuesdays at 4pm Eastern, and were only available to the general public at that time. Select Master Classes are available beyond summer 2020 as digital rentals for education purposes only.

Sascha Radetsky
Ballet Master Class

A digital loan of this Master Class is available to educators.

Sascha Radetsky joined American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company in 1995 and its corps de ballet in 1996. He also danced as a principal or guest principal with the Dutch National Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Berlin Staatsballett, and several other international companies. He was named Artistic Director of ABT Studio Company in August 2018.

Ephrat Asherie & Archie Burnett
Street & Club Dances Master Class

Ephrat “Bounce” Asherie is a New York City-based b-girl, dancer, and choreographer, and a 2016 Bessie Award Winner for Innovative Achievement in Dance. Archie Burnett teaches and performs worldwide, and is best known for Whacking, Waacking, Hustle, Vogue, and Freestyle, aka House aka Club Dance.

Desmond Richardson
Contemporary Ballet Master Class

Desmond Richardson was the first African-American principal dancer of American Ballet Theatre. He has been a member and invited guest of prestigious companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Frankfurt Ballet, Royal Swedish Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Washington Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet.

Omari Wiles
Vogue Femme Master Class

Omari Wiles was born in Senegal West Africa, and trained and performed with his family’s dance company The Maimouna Keita School of African Dance from a young age. Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Omari is also a legendary member of the ballroom scene and founder and artistic director of Les Ballet Afrik.

Virginia Johnson
Ballet Master Class

August 4

A digital loan of this Master Class is available to educators.

Universally recognized as one of the great ballerinas of her generation, Virginia Johnson is a founding member of Dance Theatre of Harlem, and was one of its principal ballerinas over a career that spanned nearly 30 years. After retiring in 1997, Ms. Johnson went on to found Pointe Magazine and was editor-in chief for 10 years.

Darrell Grand Moultrie
Contemporary Master Class

A recipient of the Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award, Darrell Grand Moultrie has created and staged works for Colorado Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, BalletMet Columbus, Ailey 2, Milwaukee Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Tulsa Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Smuin Ballet, Washington Ballet, and NBA Ballet in Japan.

Aszure Barton
Contemporary Master Class

August 18

A digital loan of this Master Class is available to educators.

Aszure Barton has choreographed for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the English National Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada. In 2002, she founded her own company, Aszure Barton & Artists. Her work has been described as rebellious, fantastical, inventive, intelligent, and raw.

Ami Shulman
Contemporary Master Class

August 25

Ami Shulman is a Rehearsal Director at the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani in Sweden. She has choreographed for the National Theatre of London, UK; the Shakespeare Theatre Company Washington DC. for which she received a Helen Hayes Award for Choreography (2016) and has co-created works with the Cirque Du Soleil; the National Ballet of Canada and Ballet BC.
