Alysia Johnson

A native of Dallas, Texas, Alysia Johnson (she/her) began her training at Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Booker T. Washington High School of the Visual and Performing Arts under Lily Weiss. She launched her professional career with Bruce Wood Dance Company before attending The Juilliard School, earning her BFA. She has since taught and choreographed for institutions including Princeton University, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Jacob’s Pillow.
In 2021, Johnson received the Princess Grace Honoraria Award for Dance through Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, where she was a company member. Known for her versatility, she has been featured in campaigns with Tory Burch and Adidas. She was a member of Boom Crack Dance Company and continues producing genre-bending, community-centered events.
Alongside performing, Johnson is a dedicated teacher and creative leader. She has been part of the team at Black Dance Change Makers, where she contributes to community-centered programming and arts advocacy. Her choreographic work spans concert dance, training programs, and youth development, reflecting her commitment to storytelling, innovation, and empowering the next generation of dancers. Recently, Alysia she A.I.M by Kyle Abraham and continues to tour and perform with the company.
