Francisco Martinez
Contemporary Rehearsal Director/Artist Faculty, The School at Jacob's Pillow
Francisco Martinez (he/him), previously a dancer with Compania Nacional de Danza (Spain) and Ballet Royal de Wallonie (Belgium), received his training at the National Ballet School in Spain, with the Maria de Avila School of Dance, and under Victor Ullate. Martinez obtained a ballet degree from the Royal Conservatory of Dance in Madrid and also graduated from the Dance Education Laboratory at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center in New York City. He holds a BA of Arts by ESC, summa cum laude, and is also certified as a Hatha Yoga Instructor and a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Instructor.
Martinez was a Guest Rehearsal Director for Ballet Hispánico of New York from 1996 to 2000 and has been a guest instructor for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, Ballet Jazz de Montreal, Boston Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Ballet British Columbia, Cedar Lake, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Lyon Opera Ballet, and Netherlands Dance Theater, among others. Additionally, he has been a faculty member of Sarah Lawrence College, Arts Umbrella, Boston Ballet School, San Francisco Ballet School, The Ailey School, Marymount Manhattan College, and has been a full-time faculty member of the Juilliard School since Fall 2009.
From 2022-2025, Martinez served as the Associate Director of the Contemporary Program of The School at Jacob’s Pillow. He is excited to be returning to Jacob’s Pillow this year as the Rehearsal Director of the 2026 Contemporary Program.
