Contemporary Ballet Artist Faculty, The School at Jacob's Pillow

Rubén Martín is an internationally recognized educator, rehearsal director, and choreographer whose career spans more than two decades on the world’s leading stages. A former Principal Dancer with San Francisco Ballet, he performed many of the major roles in the classical canon, including Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle, and the Prince and Snow King in Helgi Tomasson’s The Nutcracker. His repertoire extended deeply into the neoclassical and dramatic works of the 20th century, with featured principal roles across the Balanchine repertory, as well as the title role of Onegin and Prince Gremin in John Cranko’s Onegin. His performances were distinguished by their artistry, precision, and emotional depth—qualities that now define his approach as an educator and choreographer.

Following his acclaimed performing career, Martín has become a respected artistic leader known for his clarity, discipline, and devotion to musical and technical excellence. He currently serves as Education Consultant at the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and as Director of the International Ballet Academy (IBA) in Cary, North Carolina—a pre-professional academy grounded in French and Vaganova-based methodology, dedicated to cultivating the next generation of professional dancers.

As a choreographer, Martín has created original works for the ABT JKO School, including pieces presented at the ABT Fall Gala, and is currently choreographing a new, full-length Nutcracker for the International Ballet Academy, premiering in December 2025. His choreographic language merges classical form with contemporary sensibility, reflecting both his European heritage and American experience. Through his leadership, teaching, and choreography, he continues to shape dancers with rigor, artistry, and humanity.
