More about The School
Program Director Chet Walker, with award-winning Broadway choreographers,
dancers and musicians, create original numbers on participants. The program culminates in A Jazz Happening benefit presentation on August 23rd featuring a Broadway ties. Dancers experience varying choreographic approaches while strengthening movement and voice performance skills as well as the skills necessary to work as an ensemble.
Daily classes include ballet, jazz, musical theatre dance, tap, and vocal training. Afternoon and evening sessions are devoted to rehearsing numbers with live music. Talks and seminars led by guest artists, faculty, and industry professionals teach audition and career-building strategies. Study in The Archives explores the history and artists instrumental in the development of jazz and musical theatre.
In addition to A Jazz Happening benefit presentation, free public showings on the Inside/Out stage on August 8, 15 and 22 build dancers' performance skills. Dancers also attend Festival performances, talks, exhibits, and master classes free of charge as part of their dance immersion at the Pillow.
