When is the Pillow open?

The Pillow grounds, Blake’s Barn, and lobby exhibits are open every day; ticketed performances and events are held Wednesday through Sunday. Parking is FREE and you do not need a ticket to enter the grounds.

Where do I park?

The Pillow has 3 public parking lots and all are FREE of charge and open to the public. When you arrive, please pull into our main parking lot and our parking attendants will direct you to an appropriate parking space. There is NO parking allowed on George Carter Road. Any cars in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.

If I’m visiting for the first time, how can I fully experience Jacob’s Pillow?

Explore our calendar and build a full day at the Pillow. See a performance in our theaters; Attend PillowTalks moderated by Pillow Scholars Fridays at 5pm and Saturdays at 4pm; experience a free Inside/Out performance Wednesdays through Saturdays at 6:15pm; join a guided tour Thursdays and Saturdays at 5:30pm; take a community dance class; observe dancers of The School at Jacob’s Pillow; see an exhibit and explore the Pillow’s history in the Archives; and immerse yourself in our community events throughout the summer!

How early should I plan to arrive?

For ticketed performances please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to showtime. The Will Call booth opens an hour before the show, and you can pick up tickets before that at the Box Office. Late seating is at the discretion of the House Manager. Performances start promptly at their assigned times. Check tickets carefully for curtain times. Seat assignments cannot be guaranteed past curtain. Don’t forget, Pre-Show talks occur 30 minutes prior to showtime.

 

For free outdoor Inside/Out performances, visitors arrive as early as one hour prior to the performance at 6:15pm to reserve their favorite seats. Come as early as you like and bring a picnic!

 

For dance classes and workshops, please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class time. This will leave you with ample time for registration and any pre-class information.

Are the grounds fully accessible?

Both theaters are wheelchair accessible; please call 413.243.0745 in advance if you require special seating. For special events and venues, please call the Box Office for detailed seating information. The Inside/Out performance space is located outdoors with mats along main pathways for ease of travel. Accessible public restrooms are located in both the theaters and in two additional locations on the Pillow grounds. Learn more about accessibility at Jacob’s Pillow.

 

Our parking staff will help you in requesting a golf cart that can take you to the Box Office, to your performance, or to the dining venues. If you require a golf cart and our parking staff is unavailable, please call the Box Office at 413.243.0745 and they will assist you. Please keep in mind we can often have over 1,000 patrons on the Pillow grounds at any given time, with a limited number of golf carts to assist patrons. Thank you for your patience. Cars are not allowed on our pathways due to safety hazards.

What if it rains?

In the event of rain, most Festival events continue as scheduled. The 6:15pm Inside/Out performance may be cancelled or moved indoors to a studio seating 80 or fewer people, and seat passes are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. When possible, a live video simulcast with limited seating is offered in a nearby studio. Passes are distributed beginning at 5:20pm. We encourage patrons not to arrive before 5:20 if it is raining unless they are prepared to wait in the rain for pass distribution. Call the Box Office at 413.243.0745 after 5pm to find out if the Inside/Performance has been moved indoors and what to expect regarding indoor availability.

 

There are many buildings and porches where you can get out of the rain at Jacob’s Pillow, but remember to bring an umbrella and rain jacket for when you’re walking around. A good place to visit when it rains is Blake’s Barn, where you can explore the Dance We Must: Another Look exhibit and Norton Owen Reading Room.

Are children and families welcome?

We welcome visitors of all ages! Free Inside/Out performances are particularly family-friendly and $10 Youth Tickets are available for select performances in the theaters. Check out all our family-friendly offerings here. Not all ticketed performances may be appropriate for all ages; ticket buyers should take responsibility for making informed decisions regarding their purchases. Our Box Office staff can help you with any questions.

What about dogs?

Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome on the grounds, but only ADA-certified service dogs may enter buildings. Also, bring your canine companion to the Pillow and take part in an unforgettable shared dance experience at our annual Dog Dance.

Is there an ATM?

Yes, an ATM is available on the grounds located just beyond the Box Office, across from The Southfield Pub.

How can I buy tickets?

Online at jacobspillow.org, call 413.243.0745, or purchase in person at the Box Office. Pre-Festival hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm. Festival Box Office hours are Tuesday 11am to 5pm, Wednesday through Saturday 11am to 8pm, Sunday Noon to 5pm, and closed on Mondays.

What can I do if the performance I want to see has no availability?

Closer to the week of a performance, we tend to see a greater amount of exchanges, and tickets may become available. We encourage you to check back for updates on our website or call the Box Office at 413.243.0745.

 

We also open up a Standby List on the day of the performance one hour before the show starts. Patrons must be onsite to get on the list.

I lost my tickets! What do I do?

If you have misplaced your tickets, you can come to the Box Office in person. Please have your I.D. handy or the name the tickets were purchased under and our staff will be happy to reprint your tickets for you. If you have a smartphone and received print-at-home tickets via email, you can use the PDF attachment as your ticket to scan into the theaters.

Will I understand the dance I’m watching?

There are many viewpoints in how we understand dance. When experiencing a performance keep an open mind and let yourself be immersed in the work. You can dive deeper with the printed PillowNotes (available in the program sent to ticket buyers via email at the beginning of each performance week); these can help put the work into more context, and don’t miss the Pre-Show Talks prior to showtime to help enrich your understanding of what you’re about to witness. Watch below as Festival artists give advice on seeing and appreciating dance.

 

What should I wear?

There is no dress code for our theaters or the Pillow grounds. We are primarily an outdoor site and you’ll be most comfortable in casual attire and often will see people in jeans, dresses, shorts, khakis, and other casual wear. Some people enjoy dressing up and you can too, but most of all, we want our guests to be comfortable. Remember rain gear for rainy days and sunglasses for sunny days! Bug spray is always a great option if you plan on spending most of your visit outdoors.

Can I take photos?

Video and photography are not permitted inside the Ted Shawn Theatre and Doris Duke Theatre. While at Inside/Out, we ask that you do not video record performances. Photography is not permitted at Saturday performances by The School at Jacob’s Pillow. Photography is permitted for personal use only. Tag @jacobspillow when you share a photo. You might just find your photo on our social media platforms.

Are there restaurants at the Pillow?

Yes! The Southfield Coffee Bar, The Southfield Pub, and The Old Inn On The Green at the Pillow are open to everyone. Whether you’re looking for an on-the-go meal or a full-service dining experience, our dining options have something for everyone! Reservations are recommended for The Old Inn On The Green at the Pillow; visit opentable.com.

Can I bring my own food and wine?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. Picnicking is always encouraged on the Pillow grounds. We ask that you join us in our sustainability initiative by bringing reusable bags or baskets for your Pillow picnic; using receptacles around campus to recycle clean glass, plastic, and paper materials; and by bringing your own reusable drink container for water and other beverages.

Help! I’ve lost my belongings on-site. How do I get them back?

Don’t panic, we have a lost and found located on our campus. If you have lost an item please call 413.243.9919 x136 or email [email protected] with a description of the item and how to contact you. We’ll make every effort to assist you in locating your item.
