Ami Shulman is a Rehearsal Director at the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani in Sweden. She has choreographed for the National Theatre of London, UK; the Shakespeare Theatre Company Washington DC. for which she received a Helen Hayes Award for Choreography (2016) and has co-created works with the Cirque Du Soleil; the National Ballet of Canada and Ballet BC.

Ami performed with Compagnie Marie Chouinard and Compagnie Flak. She was a founding member of the DanceOn Ensemble, Berlin and has a longstanding collaboration with musician/videographer Joseph Butch Rovan.

Ami became a Rehearsal Director for Compagnie Chouinard as well as for Compagnie Flak including the complete solo works of Jose Navas. She was the Artistic Director to Compagnie Chouinard on tour and an artistic advisor to several other companies including Overtigo Danse.

Ami has taught throughout Europe, Canada and the USA including for the Juilliard School; Jacob’s Pillow; Alvin Ailey School; the Boston Conservatory; Hollins University; BANFF Centre for the Arts; Cirque Du Soleil; CODARTS; B12 as well as for the Staatstheater Kassel; Cedar Lake; Abraham in Motion amongst others and is an Artistic Associate of the Springboard Project Montreal/New York.

Ami has co-authored for the anthology Back to the Dance Itself and has written articles on embodied cognition presenting at conferences such as Movement, Brain, Body, Cognition at Oxford University (2017); Gesture, Creativity and Multimodality at Paris Sorbonne University (2016) and Embodied Design in Interaction at Utrecht University (2017).

Ami is a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner.
