Contemporary Program | Director

Dutch artistic director, choreographer, and contemporary teacher Didy Veldman was trained in Amsterdam. She danced with Scapino Ballet, Ballet Genève, Rambert, and co-founded Alias Company in 1992. She began choreographing in 1987, creating work for all four companies. Veldman left Rambert in 2000 to concentrate on her choreographic career and has created over 45 works for 27 international companies including Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Goteborg Ballet, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal.

In 2016 she started her own company Humanoove with support from Arts Council England and private donors. She has created two full evening productions so far, touring nationally and internationally. The company was invited to perform The Happiness Project at Jacob’s Pillow in 2019 and she is currently working on her third production for Humanoove which will premiere in January 2021. She was part of the Pillow Lab in 2019 and she is creating new work with students from English National Ballet School and The Palucca Hochschule für Tanz in Germany; The Royal Ballet School will perform her work at the opening of the Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland in January 2020.
