Contemporary Program | Guest Choreographer

Jae Man Joo is a Korea-born artist and received the 2009 Princess Grace Award for excellence in choreography. He was a principal dancer at Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Ballet Hispánico and worked with Shen Wei, Zvi Gotheiner, Igal Perry, and Jessica Lang. For the past 19 years he was Complexions’ Associate Artistic Director, Ballet Master, and Resident Choreographer. He received the 1996 Best Artist Award from The Bagnolet International Dance Festival In Paris, France.

Joo created many works for Complexions that premiered at The Joyce Theater and in 2016 he created Circular for Ailey II. In 2017, Joo’s work Canvas premiered on Jacob’s Pillow’s Inside/Out stage. He has created work for Marymount Manhattan College, The Ailey School, Point Park University, Joffrey Ballet School, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, and more. In 2018, his work Intermezzo (Pärt & Bach) for Wise Ballet Theater in Seoul, Korea had its world premiere.
