Public Relations, Marketing, and Graphic Design

2012 Intern Positions

In the Marketing Department at the Pillow, key strategic work, preparation  
and planning takes place in the fall, winter, and spring. An internship in the Marketing department would be tailored to the intern's skills and interests. Possible intern projects are: management of artists materials, photo identification and cataloging, and collection and organization of artists' press materials; assistance with writing, marketing, and design of Education Programs and Festival Season materials; writing of press materials including press releases, media alerts and pitches; and website development.

There are three distinct internships available for the fall/winter/spring; they are:

Public Relations
  • Assist press department in creating press materials for year-round programs and upcoming 2012 Festival
  • Includes writing press releases and pitches, cataloging clips, media research, and outreach to journalists
  • Includes copywriting and editing projects; i.e. web copy, e-newsletter copy, and season brochure copy
Requirements: strong writing and editing skills, dance experience a plus

Graphic Design*
  • Create graphic pieces and marketing materials for the upcoming 80th Festival Season, The School at Jacob's Pillow, and special events, as well as for general institutional needs
  • Assist in updating and maintaining website
  • Cataloging and organizing the Pillow's extensive photography database
Requirements: working knowledge of Adobe Design Suites, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Understanding of content management systems and integration a plus.

* Please note: Graphic Design candidates must submit a portfolio of recent, original design work applicable to this internship with their application. Portfolios should measure 8.5" x 11" to 11" x 17" and must include a CD consisting of digital versions of all provided work. Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like your portfolio returned. Applications will be considered incomplete if unless accompanied by a physical portfolio.

Marketing/E-communications
  • Execute Festival marketing strategy and brainstorm new, creative tactics
  • Research niche audiences and targets for Festival artist promotion
  • Interact with fans and followers on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr as necessary
  • Copywriting for e-newsletters and marketing materials 
Requirements: Research skills, familiarity with online applications and social media platforms, campaign experience and arts/dance marketing experience a plus.
