The Associate Director of The School is an integral part of the team for The School at Jacob’s Pillow as The School re-envisions onsite and online programs. These programs are being re-imagined to serve the changing needs of dancers and choreographers in the current and post pandemic environment with inclusively just values and policies evolving for Jacob’s Pillow operations. This position provides strategic and collaborative leadership support to the Director of The School. The Associate Director of The School serves as a confident and passionate advocate for The School and furthers its leadership in the field to advance the careers of young dance professionals.
- Participate with Director of The School to articulate and promote overall vision and annual goals
- Participate with Director of The School in defining the concept and design of distinct program initiatives that further the career potential of advanced-level dance artists, in multiple genres, onsite and online.
- Manage, schedule, and train staff in skills needed for program recruitment and implementation; including screening and hiring of project staff, interns and volunteers.
- Serve as liaison with Marketing for program promotional strategies, campaigns, partner affiliations, and timelines leading to website content development and targeted communications such as e-blasts, social media, fliers, digital media advertising with partners.
- Manage implementation of School programs (including curriculum scheduling, policy adherence, reflection and documentation procedures and reports), recruitment plan, application submissions and notifications, with a focus on online programs. Includes master classes from The School, program logistic coordination, and tracking designated budget expenses.
- Provide input into marketing and public relations.
- Develop, monitor, and manage application management; includes program recommendations, master class registration, fee collection, artist faculty contracts, studio rentals, artist logistical arrangements, fostering relationships with existing and prospective artists, school partners, recruitment contacts, and alumni.
- Develop and manage program notification process, tuition payments, pre-arrival communications, and curriculum schedules, program materials for artist faculty and dancers, and documentation and reflection processes.
- Oversee monthly financial tracking and reconciliation with finance department.
- Support Alumni and School Sponsor events and activities.
- Collaborative work with other departments is integral to all responsibilities.
- Serve as an alternate SEVIS representative, under Producing Director, as needed. SEVIS is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System managed by the U.S. government that enables The School to enroll international dancers in its programs.
- Bachelor’s Degree, or the equivalent of experiential practice as a dance professional with arts administration experience
- 3 years of experience in the field of performing arts training management
- Familiarity with multiple dance genres and diverse dance studio training and performance practices
- Creative thinker, who can work to advance The School educational and artistic mission
- Effective interpersonal skills able to communicate professionally and sensitively, in writing and verbally, with a wide-range of diverse professionals, people, and institutional contacts.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organization; customer service skills
- Ability to manage and track progress of multiple projects via narrative report systems, spreadsheets, briefings, accessing database tools
- Ability to work with agility and resiliency in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of digital media
- Respectful of institutional history and memory
- Remote work as needed.
- 3 years of experience in the field of dance training management
- Experience in developing on-line educational programs
- Fluency or passable conversationalist in another language
- Familiarity with Jacob’s Pillow
- Dance history knowledge

This is a part-time position (25 hours/week) with a transition to full-time year-round beginning January 2021.
This position is temporarily remote due to COVID-19, but is expected to become an on-site position in summer. During the weeks of the annual summer Festival, Jacob’s Pillow operates on a six-day workweek.
Salary is commensurate with experience and in keeping with a not-for-profit pay scale.
