Risa Steinberg is an active member of the dance community as a performer, teacher, re-constructor of the works of José Limón, and mentor to young, emerging, and established choreographers. She is a former principal dancer with the José Limón Dance Company, Bill Cratty Dance Theater, Annabelle Gamson, Anna Sokolow’s Player’s Project, Colin Connor, and American Repertory Dance Company. Ms. Steinberg has also been a guest artist with choreographers, including Wally Cardona, Sean Curran, DanzaHoy of Caracas, Venezuela, and Margie Gillis. Her acclaimed solo concert, A Celebration of Dance, featured repertoire from Isadora Duncan to contemporary choreographers. She has been on the faculty at The Juilliard School since 2001 and held the position of Associate Director of Juilliard Dance from 2008-2016. She has been the Choreographic Advisor and Mentor to many choreographers, including Kate Weare, Michelle Dorrance, and Emily LeCrone. Presently, she is Choreographic Mentor for Brian Brooks, Kyle Abraham, New York Choreographic Institute, and YoungArts. She was a performer in Sleep No More from 2015 until the arrival of Covid.
