Jacob’s Pillow invites dance artists across all genres to participate in the fourth annual Chance to Dance viewers’ choice contest!
The contest is a crowd-sourced online competition that lets dance fans around the world decide who gets an opportunity to compete at America’s longest-running dance festival. This year, three finalists will be selected to compete on Saturday, August 22, 2020. These finalists will be voted on by a LIVE audience, and one will be named the 2020 Chance to Dance viewers’ choice contest winner.
The Pillow is calling for submissions from dancers and choreographers in the U.S. and from around the globe. To apply: read the Chance to Dance Submission Criteria and Artist Waiver (below), showcase your work in a video (must be 3 minutes or less in length), and submit your application using the blue button!

Length: Video submissions must be no more than three minutes in length.
Content: The Inside/Out performance space hosts free public programs intended for audiences of all ages. Content submitted must be family-friendly and suitable for this environment. Nudity, adult content, or foul language is not appropriate. Once an initial submission is reviewed and if the work is selected, full program content will be reviewed for final consideration. Please keep in mind that artists will need to fill 8-10 minutes if selected to perform.
You (ARTIST) and Jacob’s Pillow (PILLOW) hereby agree to the following:
Performing rights: ARTIST will obtain and provide any and all rights, royalties, or licenses required for this video submission including but not limited to text, music, lyrics, stage direction, choreography, scenic, costume, and lighting design. ARTIST understands that the use of copyrighted material without proof of rights will subject the submission to disqualification. Use of material within the public domain or original music, text, lyrics, etc. is encouraged.
International Submissions: International submissions will be accepted and if chosen as a finalist should be able to travel to the U.S under a B2 tourist visa or using the VWP under the following parameters outlined by the US Department of State: “Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating.” Artists will be responsible for securing legal entry to U.S. without the aid or guidance of Jacob’s Pillow.
Liability: ARTIST agrees that they are over 18 years of age. If under the age of 18, ARTIST agrees that these terms and conditions have been reviewed and signed by a legal parent or guardian.
Permission: ARTIST hereby grants permission to PILLOW to post video and text content submitted. ARTIST also understands that videos will be posted for online voting at the sole discretion of PILLOW. Submission does not guarantee involvement in the online voting platform.
Availability: ARTIST and all collaborators must be free to travel to Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, Massachusetts on Saturday, August 22, 2020.
Travel Reimbursement: PILLOW will cover travel expenses up to $1,000 with the submission of receipts. PILLOW will not cover any other expenses associated with competition participation.
